Hello! Welcome to Mrs. Higgins’ Web Page! I am excited to be working with your child this year! Please stay tuned for exciting events and information…
As I was entering grades this morning, I realized the grade book has switched to a new trimester. I am not sure what reports you will be getting, but I just wanted you to know, grades may look a bit different to you in your next report. Right now, I entered all grades from last week’s work. Some students did well, some rushed, some did not read directions. Therefore, the grades are all over the place. Remember, this is only a snapshot of one week. These grades will change throughout the trimester. It may be important for you to talk with your student regarding their work ethic. If you are seeing papers with redo at the top, it is because they are rushing. I am trying to get them to slow down and really do their best. Again, if you have questions, please email me or stop by!
Hello and Happy Thanksgiving!
During this time of giving thanks, I would like to thank you, and your child for one of the best starts to the school year I’ve had in a long time! This class is full of energy, but they are sweet and sincere. I appreciate all they do each day to bring a smile to my face! Thank you also for your support at home – these kids can do many things because they have support from you!
On December 2nd, report cards will be coming home in Homework Folders. You will find these in small, manilla envelopes. Please take the report card out of the envelope and keep it. This is yours to hang on the fridge or put in scrap books if you would like. Please sign the outside of the envelope, showing you have seen the report card. Return the envelop the next day in the folder. If you have questions regarding the report card, please do not hesitate to stop by or email me.
Our next APTT meeting will be coming up the first week of February. Please mark your calendars for February 4th. At this meeting we will review the skills we discussed in the Fall and continue to build on ideas for the rest of the year. As always, I would love to meet with you outside of the APTT time if you have questions, joys, or concerns!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break!
Winter is finally starting to show her face around these parts. Yippie! Snow is so much fun, but it isn’t as much fun when students are not prepared for the weather. Please help your child remember to wear layers each day. That way, if they get too hot or too cold, they can decide on the amount of layers they need. Also, have your child put a hat and gloves in their backpacks each day. When the snow really flies, students must have boots and snow pants in order to play in the snow. During the school day, we ask the students not to wear snow boots in class. They can bring an extra pair of shoes to keep at school, or even a pair of slippers. Remember, on our PE days, they must have tennis shoes.
Another item of note – The Parent Survey! It is that time of year again – we want to hear from you! Please take a moment (about 5 actually) to fill out this survey. We REALLY do use the information to guide our process of delivering instruction and helping kids with behaviors. Our goal this year is to have 100 responses! Please be a part of that goal! We DO value what you have to say! The link is below, if you cannot get it to connect, please copy and paste into your URL. Thanks so much!
On Friday, October 30th, our school is going Trick-or-Treating at Carroll College! We will be leaving Broadwater around 12:45 and returning by 2:00ish. Please, if you’d like to join us, feel free. The more adult helpers, the better!
Students are allowed to dress up for the afternoon. However, we do have restrictions to the costumes. Please, NO face makeup, hair spray, weapons (even if they are fake), or blood/guts. The costume needs to be appropriate for students of all ages. Not too scary for our little friends!
During the morning, my class will be doing a Halloween arts/crafts event. We will be making various creations and sharing a few snacks. It should be a great day!
Hi Families of 4H!
Our Winter Program will be coming up quickly (I know it is still only October). Just wanted to remind you to sign up now for tickets. Our space is limited, that is why we have to do tickets. Each FAMILY is entitled to 4 tickets per family for one show. Please contact the office at 324-1130 or email@example.com to sign up for tickets if you did not do it at our APTT conference.
Our shows happen on Friday, December 11th at 10:00 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. We also have a dress rehearsal on Wednesday, December 9th at 1:30 p.m. for those who do not like a crowded gymnasium.
This year, our class is expected to wear green tops and khaki on the bottom. If the girls have an all green dress, that would be fine as well. Start looking now at all the stores. Walmart, Target, and KMart usually have great deals on plain colored shirts. Last year I found shirts for $3 and pants for $7. Just start looking now, rather than waiting. If you have any questions, please email Ms. Skogley at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you so much for attending our first Academic Parent Teacher Team (APTT) meeting! It was a resounding success and I hope you all learned something about 4th grade and the expectations for your student’s learning. I have already heard from most of my students that they love playing the squares game with their families. The idea behind APTT is that, as a community, we all care about all kids. We can be successful when we work as a team. Hopefully your student can find time to play these games with extended family and friends. Together, we can help our kids be successful and reach their goals!
I hope all of you have seen a note come home this week about our APTT conference on October 1st! I am sure many of you have questions about this. I can tell you this is our new way of doing parent/teacher conferences this year! The teachers are extremely excited to share all we’ve learned with you and help you set goals for your individual child. I cannot wait to see you on October 1st at 5:00 in Room 10!
Wednesday, August 26th is the 1st Day of School! See you all at 8:30! Our class lines up at the West end of the building! Cannot wait to see your smiles!
